I really love the combination of skills utilised as a designer. It allows me to express my creativity through design thinking, which is balanced with the technical and problem solving skills required to successfully meet the brief. I look forward to designing commercial spaces that are creative, functional and add value to clients business whilst rounding out my professional design skills.
Interior Design to me is a perfect blend of the world of architecture, and the world of visual. I have been drawing since I could hold a pencil in my hand, and have grown up loving visual art and the freedom of creativity that it provides. As I grew older, I found myself drawn to buildings and spaces and how they affect the people and the way we live, and that is when I decided that I wanted to become an interior designer. I have spent the last two years at CIT expanding my knowledge of the principles of design and my skill set, and challenging myself to learn and grow and keep an open mind towards all the incredible possibilities that the world of design holds.
My personal belief in the role of design in this world can be summarised through the words of Frank Lloyd Wright, “Architecture is life, or at least it is life itself taking form, and therefore it is the truest record of life as it was lived in the world yesterday, as it is lived today, or ever will be lived.”
Creativity has always been an inborn need for me. I recognise the need to combine aesthetics with functionality, and love the challenge of melding form with function. Incorporating environmentally sustainable design principles is also important to me.
Studying interior design has allowed me to explore different aspects of design, such as the thinking that has been applied to project or creating a environments. I have always had a interest in designing environment, that interest which as developed in to a passion for creating functional and incorporating sustainable design has become my passion. I have loved experiences different types of design such as commercial, retail, Residential and hospitality.
Interior Design provides me with the perfect medium of expression. A balance between Art and
Functionality. It provides a unique opportunity to approach a problem at hand and find a beautiful
way of solving it. The endeavour of design is both a challenge and a reward and on this endeavour
I hope to bring a new perspective into Canberra & Australia’s design culture.
I was raised in upstate New York, the daughter of an architect and social worker. I received a law degree with a concentration in international human rights law and worked as a criminal defense trial attorney for a number of years. I have since worked as a science teacher in Honduras, a full time glassblower and glassblowing instructor at a non-profit just outside of New York City using glass art as a means for kids to develop life skills, and a production glassblower for NYC lighting designers. My skills include woodworking, welding, glassblowing, throwing pottery and computer aided drawing.
My passion for design has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Throughout my studies I have been involved with Textiles Design, Visual Arts, Jewellery and Object Design and most recently Interior Design. Design is my passion and through my current employment, lighting has become a big interest of mine.
